John 4:1-42
Life Group Questions:
1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? What, if any, questions did the sermon cause for you or do you desire to have additional clarification?
2. Describe the most challenging aspect for you in sharing the Gospel. Have you ever had any training in sharing the Gospel? If so explain the benefits of that training. Where do you need to grow in your ability to share the Gospel?
3. How important do you think it is to share the Gospel? Do you believe that God expects each Christian to share the Gospel? How much do you think God expects us to share the Gospel? Do you feel you are being faithful in this area of life? Why or why not?
4. Take the time to explain the main elements of the Gospel. If a non-Christian asked you to tell them the Gospel what would you consider to be crucial points? What are some elements of the Gospel that truly make it “Good News”?
5. Why do you think that God is so concerned about the poor, needy, and outcast? How should God’s attitude toward the poor affect out attitude toward them? What does it mean that Jesus was the friend of sinners? Should we be friends with sinners? Explain.
6. Explain the meaning of God not being one who shows partiality (cf. Romans 2:11). What did Paul mean by saying that there is “neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female”? Does God still recognize individuals as Jew or Gentile? Does Paul intend for us to think that there are no longer distinctions between males and females in life and ministry? Explain.
7. Do you believe that we should confront sinners (non-believers) over their sin? If so, how should we confront sinners about their sin (e.g., when or when not, how often, etc.)? Is confrontation of sin different when dealing with believers rather than non-believers? Explain.
8. What is the most challenging part of the story of John 4:1-42 for you? Do you see any difficulties with this passage? What do you see as the main point of John’s writing here? Explain.
