John 7:40-52
Life Group Questions:
1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? What, if any, questions did the sermon cause for you or do you desire to have additional clarification?
2. Read the following passages: John 1:14; Colossians 1:19; 2:3, 9; Hebrews 1:5; Philippians 2:8-10; 2 Corinthians 9:15; Revelation 5:11. Describe some of the ways in which Jesus Christ is matchless. What aspects of His nature and being should cause us to be amazed?
3. What does it mean that some of the people considered Jesus to be “the Prophet”? Who was this prophet and what were His characteristics (cf. Deuteronomy 18:18)? How was Jesus different than all the other prophets of God?
4. Look up the word Christ in a Bible dictionary. Describe some of the main concepts related to this term. What is the connection between the words Christ and Messiah? What is the significance of Jesus being the Christ?
5. How should we respond to those who question the validity of Jesus’ deity? Why is the deity of Jesus Christ important? Do you think that a person can be saved and not believe in the deity of Jesus Christ? Why or why not?
6. What does it mean that God has spoken through His Son, Jesus Christ (cf. Hebrews 1:1-2)? How did God speak through His Son? Is God still speaking through His Son? Describe a time when God spoke to you. How did you know that it was God who was speaking to you?
7. What was it about the manner in which Jesus spoke that impressed the officers who were sent to seize Him (vs. 46)? In what way did Jesus speak as none had before? In what way did Jesus speak to an extent that none ever had? You may want to read the following passages: Mark 1:21; 27; 10:21; 12:24; Luke 20:40; John 3:3; 11; 5:19; 6:38; 7:16; 15:9.
8. What are some questions you have about God? List some theological topics that interest you (e.g., the Trinity, the deity of Jesus Christ, soteriology, ecclesiology, etc.). Talk to one of the elders of Macedonia and get advice on resources that will help you seek more understanding in these and other areas of Christian study.
