1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? Do you have any questions?

2. What does it mean to fear the Lord (cf. Deuteronomy 6:24-25; 10:12-13; Leviticus 19:2; 32)? List some of the blessings of being one who lives in reverence of God (cf. Psalm 34:7; 128:1-2; 147:11). How should we regard the Lord (cf. Hebrews 12:28)?

3. What does it mean that the sons of Eli were worthless (cf. 1:16)? How does this statement relate to the idea that the men did not know the Lord? Explain what makes us valuable as human beings.

4. Describe how the writer is contrasting Samuel, Eli’s sons and Hannah. List some of the errors of Eli’s sons and the priests. What was the main fault of the religious leaders (vs. 17)?

5. What is the significance of our passage beginning and ending with thoughts about Samuel ministering in the presence of God? How significant is the writer’s comment that Samuel was young?
