1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? Do you have any questions?

2. What are some of your favorite passages in the Bible that contain the prayers of God’s people (cf. 2 Kings 6; Jonah 2; 2 Samuel 7; 2 Chronicles 6; John 17; etc.)? Explain what it is about these prayers that you appreciate.

3. How would you describe the prayer of Hannah cited in our passage? How do you think the circumstances of Hannah’s life impacted the way in which she prayed? What are some circumstances in your life that have encouraged you to pray?

4. Why do you think Hannah focuses on the sovereign rule of God in her prayer? How important is it for us to remember that God is in control? How should the all-knowing aspect of our sovereign God impact our prayer?

5. What does it mean that there are none like our God (cf. Deuteronomy 4:35; 32:39; Jeremiah 10:6; 1 Timothy 6:15)? In what way is God different from all other created things? What does it mean to treat and consider God as holy?

6. Who is this anointed King that Hannah refers to in her prayer (cf. Isaiah 9:6; Psalm 2; 2 Samuel 7)? What is significant about her mentioning a king even before Israel appointed their first king, Saul?
