Life Group Questions

1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? Do you have any questions?

2. Describe some of the elements of Samuel’s testimony. Why do you think Samuel made it a point to mention his faithfulness? Why is integrity so important to our witness?

3. Read 2 Timothy 4:6-8. What does Paul mean when he says that he fought the good fight and finished the race? What are some things that can hinder us from fighting the good fight and finishing the race?

4. Read Samuel’s retelling of God’s gracious acts toward Israel (cf. vis. 6-13). What is the point Samuel is trying to make about God’s acts? To God’s grace?

5. Samuel informed the people that their actions would impact the consequences they experience. Briefly describe the two possibilities presented by Samuel. Do you think the same type of consequences apply to Christians today (cf. 1 Corinthians 3:12-15)? Explain your answer.

6. Read Deuteronomy 11:22-28. How is Samuel’s instruction similar to that of Deuteronomy? How should the instruction of Deuteronomy have impacted the people of Samuel’s day?

7. What does it mean that God was gracious and faithful to Israel for His name’s sake? Read the following passages and describe the importance of God’s name: Isaiah 1:18-20; Psalm 23:3; 25:11; 31:3; 79:9; 106:8; 115:1.
