1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? Do you have any questions?

2. How does the story of 1 Samuel 13:8-15 compare to that of chapter 10:8? How did Saul respond the first time Samuel gave him instructions? Why do you think Saul acted differently in chapter 13?

3. What was the big deal about Saul’s failure to wait for Samuel? Why was it such a problem that he went through the offering on his own?

4. List a few actions that revealed Saul did not have a heart for God. What does it mean to have a heart for God? How does a person get or develop a heart for God?

5. Read the following passages: Psalm 51:10; 19:14; 24:3-5; 27:8. Take time to pray and ask God to help you have a pure heart that desires His will.

6. Why is it so difficult for us to be patient with God’s timing? Why do you think God makes us wait on Him sometimes (cf. Genesis 8:10-12; Exodus 24:12; Psalm 27:14)?

7. What are some of the benefits or blessings associated with having a heart for God (cf. 2 Chronicles 16:9; Isaiah 51:7-8)?
