1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? What, if any, questions did the sermon cause for you or do you desire to have additional clarification?

2. What does it mean to persevere as a Christian? Is persevering something we do as a person or something God does through us? Explain.

3. Read Colossians 2:6-8 and Ephesians 5:6. Describe some examples of modern philosophies and empty words that lead people astray. What teachings or teachers have you heard that fit this category of dangerous teaching?

4. What does it mean to have solid teaching and doctrine in a church? Why is it important for a church to focus on solid biblical teaching? What are some ways we can grow in our understanding of God’s Word?

5. Why do you think suffering and difficulties are present in Christians’ lives cf. (John 16:33)? Do you believe there is a purpose associated with suffering (cf. Philippians 1:29-21; 1 Peter 3:14-17; 4:19)? How does the example of Christ’s suffering help us suffer well (cf. Hebrews 2:18; 5:8)?

6. What does it mean to praise God (cf. Psalms 146-150)? List some reasons God is worthy of praise. What are some specific ways we can praise God through our life? Why is it possible for us to praise God even in the bad times?

7. Why do you think the writer of Hebrews refers to praising God and doing good as sacrifices (verses 15-16)? What is it about these acts that bring pleasure to God? What are some good things that God has placed upon your heart to do? What are some good things that our church should be doing?
