Life Group Questions

1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? Do you have any questions?

2. Read Deuteronomy 17:14-20. What does this passage tell us about the Lord and the people of Israel? How does this passage connect with the narrative of the book of Samuel?

3. What was the purpose of “anointing” (cf. Leviticus 8:30, 1 Samuel 16:13, 1 Kings 1:39)? Is true anointing a physical thing, or is it something from the Lord (1 Samuel 9:16, 10:1)? How has the Lord anointed believers (cf. 1 John 2:20, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22)?

4. The writer tells us in verses 6 and 10 that the “Spirit of the Lord” rushed upon Saul. What is significant about this idea? The Lord did some amazing things through the lives of individuals in Scripture (e.g., Gideon, Samson and David). Describe some amazing things He has done in your life (cf. Acts 1:8).

5. We are reminded that the Lord, in verse 9, gave Saul another heart. According to Ezekiel 36:26-27, how does the Lord change hearts? Reflect upon your life, and describe how the Lord changed your heart (cf. 2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:4-5).

6. A Spirit-filled, changed heart should cause believers to proclaim the greatness of the Lord! Reflect on the Psalmist’s words in Psalm 111. How can we, like the Psalmist, praise the Lord?
