1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? Do you have any questions?

2.Read 1 Samuel chapters 8, 9 and 10. Discuss some of the sections that you enjoyed the most. What were some of the doctrines of God you discovered? Explain one.

3.Read 1 Samuel 10:17-19. What had God done for Israel? What had Israel done to God? List some important things God has done for you. What are some things we have done toward God that were not pleasing to Him (cf. Ephesians 4:30; 1 Thessalonians 5:19)?

4.Read 1 Samuel 8:9-10, 18, 19b. Discuss the contrast between the earthly king who takes and the heavenly King who gives.

5.Read 1 Samuel 10:19d-22. Describe the purpose of casting lots. Did God approve of such actions (cf. Numbers 34:13; 36:2)? List a few of the situations where casting lots was used in Scripture. Name and discuss some biblical principles we should use for finding God’s will today.

6.Why do you think the writer tells us that Saul hid himself among the baggage (cf. 1 Samuel 10:22)?

7.Read 1 Samuel 10:23-24. What is the significance of the saying, “Long live the king”? Contrast this statement about the earthly king with the idea of God as the eternal King.

8.Read 1 Samuel 10:25 and Deuteronomy 17:14-20. How do the laws for setting up a new king apply to “the rights and duties of the kingship” Samuel spoke about?

9.Read 1 Samuel 10:26. Saul went home and some men of valor whose hearts God had touched went with him. Discuss how God has touched your heart to serve the Lord and others at Macedonia in 2024.

10.Read 1 Samuel 10:27. Discuss King Saul’s first test as king. What can we learn from this situation? Read Isaiah 52:13-53:12. Discuss the importance of the One who kept silent until He needed to speak up (cf. John 19:30). What is the meaning of His last words?
