Life Group Questions

1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? Do you have any questions?

2. What does it mean when we speak of the hand of God? Does God have hands? Look at the following passages and provide observations about the hand of God: Exodus 9:1-3; Deuteronomy 2:14-15; Joshua 4:23-24; Judges 2:13-15.

3. How does this passage teach us the lesson that the Lord is God alone? Why is it important for us to understand this concept? What are God’s expectations for His people since He alone is God (cf. Deuteronomy 4:35-40; 1 Kings 8:59-61; 18:21)?

4. Read Psalm 118:27 and Psalm 46:10. What sense of comfort and encouragement do these Scriptures provide for God’s people?

5. Why was God’s hand heavy against the Philistines? What were some ways in which the Philistines tried to relieve themselves of God’s hand? Have you ever felt the heaviness of God’s hand in your life? Explain.

6. What are some things to remember that help us avoid taking the grace of God for granted (cf. Ephesians 2:11-12)? How does the grace of God encourage us not to continue in sin (cf. Romans 5:20-6:1)? List some ways in which we can avoid receiving the grace of God in vain (2 Corinthians 6:1).
