1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? Do you have any questions?

2. Read the following passages: Deuteronomy 4:29; 6:5; 10:12; Joshua 22:5; 1 Chronicles 28:9; 29:19; 2 Chronicles 16:9; Psalm 9:1; 119:2,10, 34. List at least three observations from your reading of these passages.

3. Why does God require complete allegiance from His people? Do you think it is possible for people to live a life of complete commitment to God? If so, what would that life look like (cf. 2 Corinthians 10:5)?

4. Read 1 Samuel 15 and describe the error of Saul. Do you think Saul really thought he had obeyed the Lord? What does this passage teach us about God’s expectations for our obedience?

5. Read Joshua 24 and describe any similarities between that passage and our passage in 1 Samuel. Do you think the writer intends for us to make a connection? Explain.

6. What does the confession of sin in this passage tell us about the Hebrews? Describe how this act of the people was a turning point in their situation. Describe the meaning of confession and why it is an important element of Christian life (cf. Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:8-10; Proverbs 28:13; James 4:8; Psalm 32:5; 38:18).

7. Why is having God as our Helper such a great encouragement for life? What does it mean to have God as our Helper (Psalm 28:6-7; 121; Hebrews 13:5-6)?
