Life Group Questions

1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? Do you have any questions?

2. Describe the glory of God and its meaning (cf. Exodus 33:18-19; Isaiah 6:3). What does it mean that the heavens “declare” the glory of God (cf. Psalm 19:1)?

3. In what way does Jesus Christ display the glory of God (cf. 1 John 1:14; Psalm 8:5; Hebrews 1:3; 2 Corinthians 4:6)? How do and can we as Christians display the glory of God? Do others see God’s glory through you? Explain.

4. Look back at our passage and describe how the people were presumptuous toward God. What are some ways in which they presumed God would do what they wanted? Describe ways in which we sometimes do the same thing (cf. Joshua 7 & 9).

5. Describe the reason God gave the Ark of the Covenant to Israel (cf. Exodus 25). How did Israel confuse the power and presence of God with the Ark? Why does the writer use three different ways to identify the Ark (i.e., covenant, LORD and God)?

6. Eli, his family and Israel faced some devastating results stemming from their actions. What lessons does the writer want us to learn from their mistakes? How can we limit tragedy (“destruction”) from our lives (cf. Matthew 7:13-14)?
